Three tiers is the magazine I designed for the final major project of my degree. By the third year I finally knew which area of Graphic design I enjoyed the most, and this was editorial design. I designed a magazine about Afternoon tea, looking into bringing it back and the affordable side of it. I found that the cost and making time was the main issue as to why we barely take Afternoon tea anymore, and so the main focus of this brief was to solve the problem. The cooking, photographs, content and designs throughout the whole magazine are all my own and this is the outcome of the project - a quarterly magazine with doily designs, invites and recipes for the reader. For the show at the end of the degree, I displayed layouts of my magazine with a tablecloth of screen printed doilies as the backdrop.

I had to produce a font package involving a poster, a cd with cover art and a screensaver. For the design of the poster, I typed out each letter of the alphabet repeatedly and arranged the letters into a circle. I wanted to experiment with techniques and papers which led me to my final poster design where I screen printed with black acrylic paint onto 175 gsm Somerset paper to get a high quality hand produced finish. I also created an A1 sized book of my prints on cartridge paper, where I experimented with colour and different effects by varying the amount of ink used.

For this brief I had to write my own brief, but it was to be based on Dungeness in Kent. I wanted to create a cookbook that included recipes from Dungeness and so I wrote letters to the residents asking for some of their recipes to be posted to me. As most of us live in areas that is so accessible to food, takeaways and convenience stores I wanted to explore into what the residents did as Dungeness was a very open space without local food shops. This is when I realised that editorial design was the area of graphic design I enjoyed the most. The final outcome of this project was a 12 recipe cookbook, which included a sleeve with an embossed logo.

I did the information design in collaboration with my friend Amy because we both were focusing on concerts we've been to and therefore collected more data when it was the two of us. We placed our concerts around a circle starting with both our first concerts at the top flowing round to the next concert we're going to together at the bottom, this way the piece can be cut in half. We joined each time we both went to London for a concert which created many lines like a spirograph. The final design is screen printed in a metallic silver paint on different coloured papers which I have displayed. I've also shown my handmade book which supported my research and findings.

The idea of this project was to rebrand the airline starting with a new logotype and then moving onto the designs for a variety of brand material used throughout the airline such as plane liveries and ticket designs. The aim of the airline is to make flying less stressful, especially for frequent flyers in business class who I wanted to target as the core market for the airline. I designed the airline to be a Health Spa on the aircraft using turquoise and silver colours to make the Spa have a serene and stylish feel, yet still be suitable for men and women. After creating the brand mark, I wanted the flower symbol to actually be silver so I used transfer foil to give the effect I required. Once I had my brand mark I started to apply it to the planes, tickets, a check in desk and even website designs for Braniff.

The idea of the brief was to create an A1 map to help someone get from the UCA Farnham to a location in Farnham. The location I was given was the Bourne Mill Antiques Warehouse which is located on your way out of Farnham. I took photographs of my journey pin pointing important area's along the way, such as a pub, the town and the Antiques Warehouse itself. I experimented with using the Live Trace tool before changing the opacity of each of the layers. The Antiques Warehouse being the furthest away from the University is the lowest opacity with the first pub being the highest opacity.
view imageDuring my Art Foundation when taking the Graphics Pathway I was set a brief where I had to research a public place to use for a double paged magazine spread for the cover and for a 'How to' article. I chose to do the magazine spread for Ei8ht magazine since my content seemed to have the same style. I did an article on 'How to.. appreciate Reigate Hill' because so many people took the nice countryside for granted. I wanted to show a beautiful picture of what the view from Reigate Hill was like and then the article would focus on the way people didn't look after it.

I try to use my photography within projects and enjoy visiting new places to experience the new culture documenting it with a camera. The photographs I have shown are of Reigate Hill, Paris and Barcelona. I'm hoping to develop my skills as a photographer over the rest of my degree by visiting new towns, cities and countries.
